SIT WITH YOUR GROUP
1. Pick one of the two reviews you brought to class. In a paragraph tell what it is a review of, why you chose it, what makes it a well-written review, and what it made you think about in terms of writing your own reviews.
2. Groups will share their own final-draft reviews with each other. After reading one or two classmates' reviews, respond to one of them considering the following:
What images or scenes does the review share with the reader?
Discuss the reviewer's voice. How does the review balance the writer's opinion while allowing the reader to draw her own conclusions?
What background info does the review include? Anything else you wanted to know?
Does the review follow the review structure we analyzed in class? How?
Does the review provide new insight / a new way of understanding the topic at hand?
3. On the reverse side of your paper, or on a second sheet, use the same questions to evaluate your own review. Turn in along with your final draft of your review.
4. Brainstorm ideas for second reviews.

7. Using at least 2 direct quotations for the article, respond to the following:
Jason Gilbert likens himself to the dog in the movie UP as he describes his reaction to the new facebook interface. What simile or metaphor could you use to describe your own reaction to the new facebook? In what ways do you agree / disagree with Gilbert? In what ways would you Revise, Expand, or Apply his observations?
HW:
1. Read and print out (and bring to class) Nicholas Carr's "Is Google Making Us Stupid?"
Write a 1-page response considering the question IS Google Making Us Stupid. Be specific. Include at least three direct quotations. What do you see as Nicholas Carr's most important points; how would you expand, extend apply, or revise those points?
2. Have settled on a topic for your second review (Due Tues of next week). Using Google to do research, find three related articles to your topic, read, and print out. What new info, new insights, new opinions can you add to the articles you have found?
REVIEW 2 ASSIGNMENT (Due Tues, final draft)
For this review, you can review anything you want -- anything you feel that you are uniquely positioned to right a good review about -- whether it's a videogame you enjoy, an event you attend over the weekend, a website (the recent changes to Facebook), etc. Pick something you enjoy and that you already have some knowledge about.
Otherwise, the assignment is the same as for the first review.
